TUNIS – French and German interior ministers arrived in Tunisia on Sunday to discuss bilateral cooperation and the issue of illegal immigration.

Tunisian Interior Minister Kamel Feki received his French and German counterparts Gerald Darmanin and Nancy Faeser at the airport, Faker Bouzghaia, head of the Information and Communication Office at Tunisia's Interior Ministry, told Xinhua.

This visit came a week after a previous one by a delegation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte

Darmanin and Faeser will meet with Feki and Tunisian President Kais Saied on Monday, Bouzghaia said without giving further details.

This visit came a week after a previous one by a delegation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte to discuss relations between Tunisia and the European Union and ways to combat illegal immigration.

"We seek to protect the human rights of refugees and to put an end to the horrible tragedy in the Mediterranean," Faeser said in a statement issued before her arrival in Tunisia, commenting on the issue of illegal immigration, according to Germany's media.
